The European Chips Act in Action: Tackling Talent Gaps with RESCHIP4EU

Europe is taking a bold step to secure its tech future! Its reliance on external chip suppliers highlights the urgent need for strategic autonomy. Enter the European Chips Act.

This landmark policy aims to double the EU’s share in global semiconductor production from 10% to at least 20% by 2030, mobilizing €43 billion in funding to boost our resilience and innovation (Source: EU Chips Act). It’s more than just manufacturing, it’s about building a robust, self-sufficient ecosystem from design to deployment.

A key challenge?

The looming talent gap. Estimates suggest Europe faces a shortfall of up to 350,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030 (source: PwC), with only 6% of STEM graduates currently entering the sector (source: SEMI).

This is where the RESCHIP4EU project steps in! Coordinated by EIT Digital, RESCHIP4EU is directly addressing this critical skills shortage. The program is designing and delivering an advanced double-degree Master’s program in Embedded Systems Design.

This holistic curriculum covers everything from silicon to System-on-Chip (SoC) design, manufacturing, and safety-critical software, ensuring graduates are equipped to develop smart, green, and secure embedded systems. RESCHIP4EU actively promotes diversity through dedicated scholarships.

ICARUS AI will serve as the e-learning platform for RESCHIP4EU to strengthen Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem – helping shape the next generation of engineers and innovators.
