A water source will be installed at a remote location by connecting a cast iron pipe directly to a main pipe through which water flows at 70°F and 60 psig. The pipe entrance has sharp edges and the 50 ft long pipe system has three 90° elbow bends with no guide vanes, a fully open gate valve, and an angle valve with a loss coefficient of 5 when fully open. If the system must provide water at a rate of 20 gal/min and the elevation difference between the pipe and the source is negligible, determine the minimum diameter of the pipe system. 

A water pump is used to transport water from a large reservoir to another one that is higher in elevation. The free surfaces of both reservoirs are exposed to atmospheric pressure, as shown in Figure. The figure also shows the dimensions and coefficients of minor losses. The pump performance curve is approximated by the expression Hdisponible (H Avaliable) = H0 – aV2 Where the shutoff head is H0 = 125 ft of water column, the coefficient is a = 2.50feet/gpm2, the available head of the pump Hdisponible is in units of feet of water column, and the capacity V is in units of gallons per minute (gpm). Estimate the discharge capacity of the pump. (The kinematic viscosity of water at T = 68 ºF   is  1.055 × 10-5 ft2/s.).

A 16 Liters kerosene tank (density = 820 kg/m3) is filled with a 2 cm diameter hose equipped with a 1.5 cm diameter orifice meter. If it takes 20 s to fill the tank, determine the pressure difference indicated by the orifice meter. (The density of kerosene is given to be ρ = 820 kg/m3. The discharge coefficient of the nozzle meter is Cd = 0.96)
