We are proud to share that our CEO, Nektarios Baziotis, recently participated in the pivotal “Action Day” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This high-level event, held in the prestigious ECOSOC Chamber, served as a critical precursor to the 10th annual Multi-stakeholder Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Forum, marking the first Forum since the historic adoption of the Global Digital Compact by UN Member States.
Setting the Stage for Global Digital Advancement
The Action Day brought together global leaders, policymakers, innovators, and civil society representatives to explore actionable pathways for advancing the Global Digital Compact. The discussions were rich and incisive, focusing on key pillars essential for our shared digital future:
- Inclusive Digital Cooperation: Fostering partnerships that ensure no one is left behind in the digital age.
- AI Governance: Establishing frameworks for the ethical development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence.
- Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI): Building robust and accessible digital foundations for societal services.
- Innovative Uses of Data: Harnessing data responsibly to support and accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As the UN’s own summary highlighted, the event set an “energizing tone,” underscoring a collective commitment to shaping a digital landscape that benefits all.
ICARUS AI’s Alignment and Commitment
At ICARUS AI, these themes resonate profoundly with our core mission. Our participation in this vital dialogue, through our CEO Nektarios Baziotis, reflects our deep commitment to:
- Ethical AI in Education: We believe AI holds immense potential to revolutionize learning, but its development and application must be guided by strong ethical principles, ensuring fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. The discussions on AI governance at the UN are crucial to this endeavor.
- Building Inclusive Digital Learning Infrastructure: Our AI-powered platform is designed to be a form of digital public infrastructure for education, making personalized and high-quality learning accessible across linguistic and geographical barriers. We champion the call for “interoperable Digital Public Infrastructure” that Amandeep Singh Gill, UN Tech Envoy, emphasized can facilitate “regional and international scale for entrepreneurs” and, we add, for learners everywhere.
- Leveraging Data for Educational Flourishing: We agree with Claire Melamed, CEO of Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, that data is a “vital resource but one that requires careful stewardship.” At ICARUS AI, learner data is used to personalize educational journeys, enhance outcomes (contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education), and foster what Baroness Beeban Kidron described as a “global compact that contributes to children’s flourishing.”
- Global Digital Cooperation: As a company recently welcomed into the UN Global Compact ourselves, we are dedicated to fostering partnerships that advance these shared goals. True progress in the digital age requires collaboration across sectors and borders.
Looking Ahead: Our Role in a Responsible Digital Future
The insights and commitments shared during the UN’s Action Day are invaluable. ICARUS AI is energized to continue developing and deploying AI solutions for education in a manner that aligns with the principles of the Global Digital Compact. We are dedicated to ensuring our technology empowers individuals, supports sustainable development, and contributes to a digital future that is equitable, safe, and beneficial for all.
We extend our gratitude to the organizers and all participants for a successful and inspiring event. ICARUS AI looks forward to continued engagement in these critical global conversations and to translating these discussions into tangible actions that make a positive impact on learners worldwide.
