Is Europe Ready for the Cloud-HPC Era?
Cloud computing and high-performance computing (HPC) are becoming central to Europe’s digital and industrial systems. From research and innovation to data-driven decision-making, these technologies increasingly underpin how organizations operate across sectors.
To better understand how skills demand is evolving, ACHIEVE – Advanced Cloud & High-Performance Computing Education for a Valiant Europe conducted a survey led by project partner TÜBİTAK, gathering insights from companies active in fields such as biotech, aerospace, finance, energy, and digital health.
A clear signal emerged from the survey: 73% of surveyed organizations expect their need for HPC expertise to grow significantly within the next 3-5 years.
This growing demand reflects the expanding use of advanced computing in areas including simulation, modeling, optimization, and large-scale data analysis.
Respondents highlighted increased reliance on cloud and HPC skills in:
• Biotech and pharma research
• Aerospace modeling and simulation
• Energy optimization and climate analysis
• Financial risk modeling
• Smart city and AI-driven data systems
Why This Matters for Education
Preparing future professionals requires education pathways that reflect how cloud and HPC infrastructures are used in practice across industries.
Through its industry-connected approach, ACHIEVE supports the development of skills that respond directly to Europe’s evolving digital landscape.
