ICARUS AI Inc. is an active business participant in the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.
Through our participation, we have committed to support and integrate the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact across our strategy, governance, operations and relationships. These principles address four fundamental areas:
- Human rights
- Labour
- Environment
- Anti-corruption
For ICARUS, this commitment is directly connected to our work in artificial intelligence and education.
AI can expand access to knowledge, strengthen educational systems and help institutions reach learners across languages and borders. Its development and use must also protect human dignity, preserve meaningful human oversight and avoid creating new forms of exclusion, discrimination or harm.

Human rights
We seek to respect internationally recognized human rights across our activities and business relationships.
In the context of AI and education, this includes:
- Protecting privacy and personal data
- Preventing discrimination and algorithmic bias
- Promoting accessibility and linguistic inclusion
- Safeguarding learner and educator agency
- Providing transparency around material uses of AI
- Establishing routes for questions, concerns and remedy
- Applying proportionate human-rights due diligence to higher-risk technologies
Labour and decent work
ICARUS supports fair, respectful and inclusive working practices for employees and contractors.
Our priorities include:

As a digitally distributed organization working with approximately 170 remote professors and education professionals, ICARUS recognizes the importance of extending responsible practices beyond its direct employees.
Environment
ICARUS operates through a predominantly digital and remote model. This can reduce certain forms of travel, physical infrastructure and material consumption, but digital services and artificial intelligence still carry environmental impacts.
We therefore aim to:
- Consider energy and resource efficiency when selecting AI services
- Avoid unnecessary computational use
- Support remote collaboration where appropriate
- Extend the useful life of digital equipment
- Apply responsible electronic-waste practices
- Improve our capacity to understand and measure the environmental footprint of our technology use
Our environmental approach will develop as our organization, measurement capacity and AI infrastructure mature.
Anti-corruption and integrity
ICARUS supports the UN Global Compact’s principle of working against corruption in all its forms, including bribery and extortion.
We are developing governance practices addressing:
- Conflicts of interest
- Gifts and hospitality
- Procurement and supplier relationships
- Financial and operational controls
- Confidential reporting of concerns
- Protection against retaliation
- Responsible interaction with public institutions and international organizations
- Transparency in partnerships, grants and public-interest activities
Responsible AI as corporate responsibility
Our participation in the UN Global Compact reinforces our belief that responsible AI cannot be separated from responsible business conduct.
The ICARUS Responsible and Ethical AI Policy translates this position into practical expectations covering:

The policy also reflects relevant elements of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the UN Global Digital Compact.

Our Communication on Progress
The Communication on Progress is the annual public reporting mechanism for business participants in the UN Global Compact. It enables companies to report their actions and progress concerning the Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals.
ICARUS is preparing its 2026 Communication on Progress as part of its commitment to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement.

Our priorities for the next two years
ICARUS intends to focus on four connected priorities:
Responsible AI governance
Operationalizing our Responsible and Ethical AI Policy through defined ownership, risk classification, impact assessment, human oversight, supplier review and incident management.
Human rights and educational inclusion
Strengthening privacy, accessibility, multilingual learning, non-discrimination, learner agency and protection for potentially vulnerable groups.
Labour and professional responsibility
Communicating core standards to employees and contractors, including our distributed international network of professors, and improving reporting and accountability processes.
Environmental measurement
Building an appropriate baseline for energy use and greenhouse-gas emissions associated with our operations, cloud services and relevant digital infrastructure.
Accountability through transparency
Participation in the UN Global Compact is not a certification of performance or an endpoint. It is a commitment to responsible action, public reporting and year-over-year improvement.
ICARUS will continue to identify gaps, establish proportionate policies and targets, monitor progress and communicate openly about both achievements and areas requiring further development.
Responsible innovation begins when principles become decisions, safeguards and measurable actions.
