ARISE: What skills are currently missing in XR and Human–Computer Interaction education?

Helping Shape the Future of XR and Human–Computer Interaction Education in Europe

What skills are currently most needed in Extended Reality and Human–Computer Interaction? Which areas require stronger educational support, and how should future learning programs respond to evolving professional expectations?

These are some of the questions explored through the new survey launched within ARISE.

The survey is designed to gather perspectives from people working or studying in fields connected to XR, HCI, and design. Its purpose is to help identify current skills gaps, better understand labour market expectations, and refine the educational content developed within the project.

The questionnaire focuses on six thematic areas. For each of these, participants are invited to reflect on:
• The relevance of the topic to professional practice
• Current training needs
• The importance of including the topic within future educational programs

The findings will directly contribute to the development of the pan-European Master’s program and online learning modules created through ARISE. This process helps ensure that the content reflects the needs and expectations of both learners and professionals working in the field.

Rather than developing educational pathways in isolation, the survey creates an opportunity for practitioners, students, and people connected to XR and HCI to contribute feedback that can help shape future training approaches.

For Evolutionary Archetypes Consulting SL and 28DIGITAL, this type of consultation process is an important part of building educational initiatives that remain connected to real-world practice and evolving technological contexts.

The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, participation is voluntary, and responses remain fully anonymous.
