Introduction of Artificial Intelligence for Public Policy: Build Your Own Policy Project!

$800.00

I’m Dr. Mentor Nimani, and I’m thrilled to have you in this online course. With over 15 years of experience teaching these subjects both in the classroom and online, I’ve seen firsthand how these topics are shaping our world. This course is designed to be a practical and impactful experience, all centered around a single, culminating project: The Memorandum of Public Policy Analysis.

From the very beginning, this course will be driven by your own curiosity and interests. You will be asked to identify a specific, real-world problem that you believe can be addressed through science and technology policy. This problem will become the centerpiece of your work throughout the semester.

We will not simply learn about theories; we will apply them. Your analysis must be based on quantifiable data. You can use real-life data from publicly available sources or, for the purpose of this course, you may invent data to support your arguments. The key is to demonstrate a rigorous and evidence-based approach to problem-solving. Each lesson is structured to provide you with the tools and analytical frameworks needed to build a comprehensive solution. We will follow a method of reasoning to help you systematically analyze your chosen problem, understand its complexities, and ultimately, propose a well-reasoned and effective policy recommendation. Most importantly, we will embrace technological advances in this course that will help us find problems and solutions. We will learn how to find new ways to use Artificial Intelligence, also known as Ambient or Augmented Intelligence

We will explore foundational ideas from thinkers like Ray Kurzweil and Peter Diamandis, Thomas Kuhn and many more historical thinkers, visionaries, who challenge us to consider the future of humanity, and we’ll analyze how technological advancements intersect with core principles of Democracy and the rise of the Citizen Scientist. Throughout this process, you will be expected to adhere to the core principles of transparency, accountability, and responsibility as fundamental elements of democracy. By the end of this course, your final product will be a Memorandum of Public Policy Analysis that not only demonstrates your mastery of the subject but also serves as a tangible solution to a problem you care about.

I am excited to see the innovative solutions you develop. Let’s get started!

How to Approach Your Project in This Course

The success of this course hinges on your commitment to your chosen problem. Here’s how you should approach your work:

  • Problem Identification: In the initial module, you will select a policy problem related to science and technology. Choose a topic that genuinely interests you and for which you can find supporting information or, as a last resort, invent plausible data.

  • Structured Analysis: Each video lecture and reading assignment will provide you with a new lens through which to analyze your problem. You’ll learn to break down the issue, consider different perspectives, and evaluate potential solutions using quantifiable data.

  • Building Your Memorandum: Your final memorandum will not be written all at once. Instead, it will be built piece by piece throughout the course, with each module contributing a new section to your final document. By the end, you will have a complete and well-supported solution.
